Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is without doubt the major potential disbursement on any purchase (it is not payable on a sale).  Again the amount paid depends on the purchase price.  The bands on a freehold or existing leasehold are as follows and the percentage shown is charged on the full price.  For instance the duty on a purchase of £300,000 is £9,000.  Please note that on new leasehold purchases additional SDLT may be payable based on the rent.
